Our seasonal wallpaper features the choke cherry. The springtime blossoms of this tree provide pollinators with nectar and pollen, while its summer fruit provides a veritable banquet for birds. Native from coast to coast in Canada, it grows in sun or partial shade along forest edges, shorelines and fencerows. It is fairly soil tolerant and can grow to 8m in height. This photo shows Prunus virginiana ‘Schubert’ which grows in the front shade bed in the Canadian Wildlife Federation demonstration gardens.
